His 1994 debut 'Kawaipunahele' became a landmark of contemporary Hawaiian music, blending traditional chant with lush arrangements. A kumu hula deeply rooted in Maui traditions, he has used his music to celebrate and preserve Hawaiian language and culture. His albums have repeatedly topped Hawaiian charts and won Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards.
