À propos de José Alfredo Jiménez

José Alfredo Jiménez wrote more rancheras and bolero-rancheros than any other composer in Mexican history and sang the most important of them himself. Born in Dolores Hidalgo and trained on the radio in the late 1940s, he composed El Rey, Ella, Si Nos Dejan, Cuando el destino, El Jinete, and Caminos de Guanajuato. His songs became the standards of the genre and the bedrock of Pedro Infante, Lola Beltrán, and Vicente Fernández's catalogues. He drank, wrote, and toured until his liver gave out at 47. His birthplace is now a museum and his grave in Dolores Hidalgo is shaped like a giant sombrero.
