Conservatory-trained in Singapore and at the Royal College of Music in London, Isyana Sarasvati arrived in 2015 with Tetap Dalam Jiwa and immediately set a new bar for technical sophistication in Indonesian pop. The 2022 album Il Sogno paired her operatic vocal training with DeadSquad's death-metal guitarwork and showed she was willing to abandon the indo-pop mainstream the moment it threatened to become predictable.
