Sydney six-piece formed in 1977 around Michael Hutchence's voice, Andrew Farriss's songwriting, and brothers Tim and Jon Farriss. Kick (1987) made INXS the biggest Australian band of the late 1980s; Need You Tonight and Never Tear Us Apart became inescapable on MTV. Hutchence's death in 1997 ended the classic lineup. The band continued with various singers into the 2010s before formally disbanding in 2012.
