Formed at Charterhouse School in 1967, Genesis built two distinct careers: a 1970s progressive rock band led by Peter Gabriel, with long-form concept albums and theatrical live shows, and an 1980s pop band led by Phil Collins that produced some of the decade's biggest singles. The transition between the two is one of pop's most studied case studies in commercial reinvention.
