The father of modern slack-key guitar and one of the most influential Hawaiian musicians of all time. His expressive playing and soulful falsetto defined the kī hōʻalu tradition and inspired generations of players. He helped ignite the Hawaiian Renaissance, and his 1970s recordings with the Gabby Pahinui Hawaiian Band are treasured classics. His sons carried on his musical legacy after his death in 1980.
