Europe are the Stockholm rock band whose 1986 single The Final Countdown became one of the most recognisable songs of the decade. Fronted by Joey Tempest, they rode the wave of melodic hard rock to global stadium success. After splitting in the early 1990s they reformed in 2003 with a heavier, blues-rooted sound. The synth fanfare of their signature hit remains a sports-arena and pop-culture fixture worldwide.
