Nueva trova grew out of the post-revolution generation of Cuban singer-songwriters in the late 1960s and 1970s. Acoustic, lyrical, politically engaged, and rooted in the older trova tradition of Santiago, it built bridges to the wider Latin American Nueva Canción movement and produced songs that became continental anthems of conscience and tenderness.
