Über Luk Thung

Thailand's country-music tradition, born in the central plains in the 1930s and built around tales of rural hardship, courtship, and class. The genre crystallised in the 1960s with Suraphol Sombatcharoen, the King of Thai country song, and reached its commercial peak in the 1980s under Pumpuang Duangjan, the Queen of Luk Thung. Modern luk thung mixes the older orchestral style with synths, hip-hop beats, and viral choreography.
