Über Korean Indie
The independent rock and alternative scene centered on Seoul's Hongdae district, built on small clubs and independent labels from the late 1990s onward. Free of the idol system, bands like Jaurim and Hyukoh explored rock, folk, and electronic textures with more personal songwriting. The scene remains South Korea's main alternative to mainstream pop.
