Grime / UK Rap

Über Grime / UK Rap

Grime came out of East London pirate radio around 2002-2003, building on UK garage and bashment with 140 BPM beats, MC-led delivery, and uncompromising South London and East London accents. Dizzee Rascal's Mercury-Prize-winning Boy in da Corner (2003) opened the door; Skepta's 2014-2016 run made it globally famous; Stormzy, Dave, and Little Simz have spent the late 2010s and 2020s pushing UK rap toward chart dominance and Mercury Prize sweeps.
