The music Lord Shorty built in the early 1970s by fusing calypso with the dholak and dhantal rhythms of Indo-Trinidadian music, first as the soul of calypso and then as soca. Endless Vibrations in 1974 is the record usually named as the start. Shadow's basslines pushed it somewhere stranger and darker at the same moment.
