Über Dembow

Dembow is the Dominican Republic's raw street music, built on a relentless looped riddim descended from Jamaican dancehall by way of Panama and Puerto Rico. Distinct from reggaeton in its speed, minimalism, and slang-packed shouting, it grew out of Santo Domingo's barrios in the 2000s and exploded worldwide in the streaming era. El Alfa turned it into an export, and a generation from Tokischa to Chimbala made it the loudest young sound in the Caribbean.
