Über Vladimir Vysotsky

Vladimir Vysotsky was a Moscow actor at the Taganka Theatre and the most widely heard Soviet bard. Few of his records were officially released in the USSR during his lifetime, so his songs spread mainly through home tape copies. His repertoire ran from war ballads and mountaineering songs to comic character monologues, sung in a hoarse, forceful voice over guitar. In 1977 he recorded the album La corde raide in France, with arrangements by Konstantin Kazansky. He died in Moscow in 1980, aged 42.
