U2 are the biggest band Ireland has produced and one of the defining rock acts of the past four decades. Formed in Dublin in 1976, they paired The Edge's chiming, effects-laden guitar with Bono's soaring vocals and earnest, anthemic songwriting. From "The Joshua Tree" to their reinventions on "Achtung Baby", they have sold over 150 million records and remain one of the world's top touring acts.
