The most aggressive of the British Invasion bands. Pete Townshend's windmill power chords, Keith Moon's drumming as lead instrument, and Roger Daltrey's stadium voice produced both the rock opera (Tommy, 1969; Quadrophenia, 1973) and arena rock's volume template. Their 1971 Live at Leeds is widely considered the greatest live album ever recorded.
