Founded in Dunedin in 1980 by Martin Phillipps, the Chills are the only constant in a band that has cycled through more than twenty members. Pink Frost from 1984 remains one of the great singles of the Dunedin Sound era, and the 1990 single Heavenly Pop Hit brought them international attention. Phillipps survived hepatitis, addiction, and decades on the margins to lead one of the most beloved discographies in New Zealand music.
