TEEKS, of Ngāpuhi descent, broke through with the 2017 EP The Grapefruit Skies and the single Wash Over Me. His baritone-led R&B style, written in equal measure in English and te reo Māori, helped reframe te reo pop for a contemporary audience. The 2021 single Younger and the follow-up album Something to Feel cemented him as one of the major Māori-language voices of his generation.
