Musician and dancer from Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, who plays the ney anban, the southern Iranian bagpipe, and has spent decades documenting and performing the music of the Gulf coast. That music carries clear African and Indian traces from centuries of maritime trade, which makes it sound unlike anything in the Persian interior. He performs with his son Naghib and has been based in Paris since the 2000s. Ma Mastim from 2015 sets the tradition against electronic production.
