Sergio Vargas has one of the cleanest voices merengue ever produced, a smooth tenor that made him a fixture of Dominican radio from the late 1980s onward. He rose through Wilfrido Vargas's band before going solo and turning romantic merengue into a mainstream format with hits like La Ventanita. Still recording and touring, he bridges the classic orchestra era and the contemporary scene.
