Sérgio Mendes

Über Sérgio Mendes

Sérgio Mendes was the Brazilian pianist and bandleader who did more than almost anyone to carry Brazilian music to a global pop audience. His group Brasil '66 turned bossa nova and samba into worldwide hits, and his buoyant version of Mas Que Nada became a standard. Decades later he reinvented himself again, earning a Grammy and an Oscar nomination and collaborating with the Black Eyed Peas, remaining a global ambassador for Brazilian sound until his death in 2024.
