Chutney soca singer whose 1989 song Sumintra, built around a line about preferring Sparrow's calypso to Indian classical song, became one of the form's defining records. He has won the Chutney Soca Monarch title more times than anyone else. His career sits exactly on the seam between Trinidad's Indian and African musical worlds, which is the ground chutney soca occupies.
