Rain, born Jung Ji-hoon in 1982, launched his solo career in 2002 and became one of the earliest Korean pop acts to gain international attention. He toured widely across Asia and appeared on Time's influential-people list in the mid-2000s. His music blends dance-pop and R&B, and he later expanded into film and television. In 2020 his 2017 song Gang found new life as an internet meme, reviving interest in his catalogue.
