Founded in 1989 by Didier Awadi and Duggy Tee in Dakar, Positive Black Soul is the group that put Senegalese hip-hop on the international map. They opened for MC Solaar and KRS-One in the early 1990s, recorded with Baaba Maal, and built a Wolof and French rap language that has shaped almost every Dakar hip-hop crew since. Their 1995 release Boul Falé became a generational anthem and gave its name to a wider Senegalese youth movement.
