Drummer and singer of Genesis who became the biggest solo pop star of the 1980s. Face Value (1981) opened with In the Air Tonight and its gated-reverb drum break, the sound that defined the decade's production; Against All Odds, One More Night and Another Day in Paradise were American number ones. At Live Aid in 1985 he played Wembley in the afternoon, flew Concorde, and played Philadelphia the same night. Eight Grammys, an Oscar for Tarzan, and drums that half the records of the era were trying to copy.
