Über Mohsen Namjoo
Singer and setar player who trained in Persian classical music and then set it against blues guitar, distortion and a deliberately unbeautiful delivery. Toranj, from his 2007 debut, made him famous in Iran through unofficial circulation. A clerical complaint over his treatment of Quranic verses led to a five-year sentence in absentia, and he has lived in the United States since. Critics have called him the Iranian Bob Dylan, which he has publicly disliked.
