Über Kassa Tessema

Kassa Tessema was a revered master of the krar, the six-string Ethiopian lyre, and a foundational figure in the country's traditional string music. His subtle, virtuosic playing and warm vocals set a standard for the instrument in the mid-twentieth century, and his interpretations of classic modes like tizita became reference points. His recordings are treasured documents of the azmari art before the modern era transformed it.
