Juaneco y su Combo are legends of Amazonian cumbia, a band from Pucallpa that wove the folklore, cosmology, and ayahuasca imagery of the Peruvian rainforest into their psychedelic chicha. Their guitarist Noé Fachín created some of the genre's most iconic riffs before a 1977 plane crash killed several members. Reissues by Barbès Records introduced their swampy, otherworldly sound to a new global audience.
