Sir Howard Morrison led the Howard Morrison Quartet through the late 1950s and 1960s and became the most prominent Māori entertainer of his generation. The Quartet's blend of Māori showband harmony, comic patter, and tight vocal arrangements toured Australia and the United States and made Māori performance central to mainstream New Zealand entertainment. He was knighted in 1990 and continued performing into the 2000s.
