Glenn Fredly was the warmest male voice of Indonesian R&B and adult-contemporary pop in the 2000s, an Ambonese singer who brought soul-music sophistication to Indonesian-language balladry. Januari and Akhir Cerita Cinta are wedding-DJ staples. He also worked tirelessly as a cultural activist for the Maluku islands and was elected chair of the Indonesian musicians' association shortly before his death from meningitis at 44.
