Dakar trio originally known as Daara J, formed in 1994 and later reduced to a duo of N-Dongo D and Faada Freddy under the Daara J Family banner. Their 2003 album Boomerang argued that hip-hop's deepest roots run through West African oral tradition and won the BBC Radio 3 Award for World Music in 2005. They sit alongside Positive Black Soul as the foundational voice of Senegalese rap.
