Über Cuco Valoy

Cuco Valoy, El Brujo, gave the Dominican Republic its own salsa. A former radio DJ from Manoguayabo, he moved from Cuban-styled son with Los Ahijados into a fierce, brass-heavy salsa and merengue with his band Los Virtuosos in the 1970s. Juliana and No Me Empujes became continental hits, and his blend of Cuban roots with a Dominican swing made him one of the most respected bandleaders in the Caribbean.
