Cantoamérica
Über Cantoamérica
Cantoamérica is the band Manuel Monestel built in 1980 to bring calypso limonense, Caribbean son, and Costa Rican folk to a national audience. They were the first group from outside Limón to put the province's music on national radio, and Monestel later produced the studio recordings that captured Walter Ferguson's songbook for posterity. Forty years on, they still play the Festival Internacional de Calypso de Cahuita and keep the tradition in front of new ears.
