Led by Jochen Distelmeyer, Hamburg's Blumfeld were the intellectual heart of the Hamburger Schule movement. They combined post-punk guitars with literary German lyrics and leftist politics, creating a uniquely German alternative rock tradition that rejected both mainstream pop and imported Anglo-American culture.
