Über Hector Berlioz

Hector Berlioz was the great visionary of French Romanticism, a composer whose wild imagination expanded the orchestra into a vast dramatic instrument. His 1830 Symphonie fantastique, a feverish autobiographical fantasy complete with a march to the scaffold and a witches' sabbath, was decades ahead of its time. A brilliant writer and conductor, he reshaped how composers thought about orchestral color.
