Bebi Philip came into coupé-décalé from gospel and never fully left it, which gives his records a melodic weight the genre does not usually carry. He works as a singer, songwriter and producer, and has written for much of the Abidjan scene alongside his own releases. Judas and Happy Birthday show the two sides, one grievance and one celebration, that his catalogue keeps returning to. He is among the few coupé-décalé artists whose songs get sung in church.
