Über Bana

Bana was long called the king of morna, a towering baritone who anchored Cape Verdean song for half a century. He came up performing the compositions of the legendary B.Leza and later ran a Cape Verdean club in Lisbon that became a hub for the diaspora scene. His warm, unhurried delivery set the standard for how a morna should be sung, and he mentored generations of island musicians before his death in 2013.
