Ayalew Mesfin

Über Ayalew Mesfin

Ayalew Mesfin was one of the funkiest voices of Ethiopia's golden age, a showman who fronted the Black Lion Band and channeled James Brown into a psychedelic Addis Ababa groove. He cut a run of blistering singles in the mid-1970s before the Derg regime forced him underground and silenced his career. Decades later, reissues by Now-Again Records and Vinyl Me, Please gathered his scattered 45s into albums and revealed him as one of the great lost treasures of Ethio-funk.
