Über Aquarium

Aquarium was founded in Leningrad in 1972 by Boris Grebenshchikov and became one of the central bands of the Leningrad Rock Club scene. Through the early 1980s it released albums such as Radio Afrika as self-made tapes outside the official record industry. Its 1986 radio recording of Gorod, with words by Anri Volokhonsky and music by Vladimir Vavilov, became widely known through the 1987 film Assa. Grebenshchikov has led changing line-ups ever since, releasing Dom vsekh svyatykh in 2022. He left Russia in 2022 and lives in London, and in 2023 Russia's Justice Ministry listed him as a foreign agent.
